A community-led initiative by former pupils and residents of ENyandeni is improving learning conditions at local schools through infrastructure projects and the donation of educational resources.
The initiative, Asibeni Munye MaNyanda, recently donated a printer to ENyandeni Primary School, ending the school’s reliance on travelling to Gwanda to print examination papers, worksheets and other teaching materials.
Teachers said the lack of printing facilities had consumed both time and financial resources, and the new equipment would improve teaching and administrative efficiency.

The initiative was established by former pupils of ENyandeni Primary and Secondary schools together with community members. It mobilises financial contributions from villagers to fund projects identified as priorities by the community.
The printer donation builds on other development projects completed by the group. Last year, it installed 10 classroom doors at ENyandeni Primary School, improving classroom security and creating a safer learning environment for pupils.
The committee is now planning to construct a perimeter fence at eNyandeni Secondary School to improve security and protect school property.
While welcoming the support, teachers at eNyandeni Primary School appealed for assistance in establishing income-generating projects such as poultry or pig farming to help the school become more financially sustainable.
Freedom “Gupta” Mpofu, a member of the Asibeni Munye MaNyanda Development Committee from Village 3, said the initiative was established to give back to the schools that had shaped generations of learners.
“We are natives of ENyandeni and we felt it was important to develop our schools so that they do not rely heavily on Gwanda town for services such as printing learning materials and other school resources,” he said.
Development Committee spokesperson Nhlanhla Mpofu of Village 6 said the initiative demonstrated the impact communities could make by working together.
“These developments show that when a community works together, it can create meaningful change. Supporting our schools is an investment in our children’s future and the development of ENyandeni,” he said.
The committee said it would continue partnering with schools across eNyandeni, from Village 1 to Village 9, to improve educational infrastructure and support long-term community development.
