Woman dies after collapsing at betting shop

Police in Bulawayo are investigating the sudden death of a 41-year-old woman who collapsed and died inside a betting shop in the city’s Central Business District on Wednesday morning.

The woman has been identified as Josephine Makiwa of Mpopoma suburb.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the incident occurred at about 11 am.

“Josephine Makiwa entered the betting shop and sat on a chair. She suddenly started vomiting, became unconscious and collapsed,” said Inspector Msebele.

She said other customers in the shop alerted emergency services, and an ambulance was called to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the ambulance crew examined her and pronounced her dead,” Inspector Msebele added.

Police said investigations are underway to establish the cause of death.

Inspector Msebele conveyed condolences to the deceased’s family, saying further details would be released once investigations are complete.

The body was taken to a local mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
