Joy as Nkayi community members receive hampers from church

By Shepherd Ndlovu in Nkayi

Hundreds of vulnerable people in Nkayi received food hampers and other essential items after St John’s Apostolic Church donated groceries, mealie-meal, blankets and other necessities during a community outreach programme held at Nkayi High School.

The donations were distributed to people with disabilities, children and other vulnerable members of the community, with traditional leaders playing a key role in identifying beneficiaries.

Chiefs, headmen and village heads worked together to mobilise the programme and select recipients from communities across Nkayi.

Nkayi Headman Mlibazisi Sibanda welcomed the initiative, saying it had brought much-needed relief to vulnerable families.

“We have heard about such events taking place in other areas, but today we are grateful to witness it here in our community. We hope the church will continue supporting us and extend more assistance in the future,” the headman said.

One of the beneficiaries said the donation had come at a critical time as many families were struggling to make ends meet.

“This hamper is a great act of kindness. It will help my family get through these difficult times, and I am truly grateful,” she said.

Large crowds gathered at Nkayi High School to witness the distribution, with many expressing appreciation for the church’s charitable work.

One of the church’s apostles said they were encouraged by the warm reception they received from the Nkayi community.

“We are delighted by the overwhelming response and acceptance we have received here in Nkayi. Our mission is not only to provide assistance to those in need but also to spread the word of God and inspire positive change in communities,” he said.

He added that the church was committed to reaching communities across the country and encouraging young people to shun social ills, particularly drug and substance abuse, through spiritual guidance and community engagement.
