ZAPU gears for 2023 elections
Opposition Party, ZAPU says it has completed its candidate selection process in a number of constituencies across the country as they gear up for the 2023 elections.
In an interview with CITE, ZAPU spokesperson Msongelwa Ndlovu said nearly 80 percent of the constituencies where the party will contest now have candidates.
“We have already completed our candidate selection process in nearly 80 percent of the constituencies we are contesting. The process is still ongoing until we field all candidates in all constituencies we are contesting,” said Ndlovu.
He said due to limited resources, the party is fielding candidates in constituencies where they have verified structures and a strong presence.
Ndlovu said candidates are soon going to be unveiled at a public rally to be held at Stanley Square.
“Only then will the number of constituencies be made public. Our structures are nominating candidates in their communities.”
He added that so far, they haven’t had contestations between the nominees.
Ndlovu said the presidential candidate will be announced although indications are that the incumbent, Sibangilizwe Nkomo will represent the party.
“The decision about President Nkomo will be announced in due course,” he said.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has stated that he will proclaim the 2023 election date at the end of May.
