Police in Bulawayo have confirmed two fatal road traffic accidents in which two pedestrians were killed after being struck by vehicles in separate incidents over the weekend.
Bulawayo Deputy Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, said the first accident occurred on September 5 at around 10:30PM along Masiyephambili Drive near the Muneti Turn-Off.
She said a 57-year-old man from Nketa 9 was driving a Toyota Hilux southwards along Masiyephambili Drive when he struck two pedestrians who were crossing the road westwards.
“One of the victims, a male adult aged approximately 40 years from Tshabalala Extension, died on the spot after sustaining head injuries,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.

The second pedestrian, a 52-year-old man, sustained head injuries and was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention.
Police attributed the accident to the driver’s failure to keep a proper lookout.
In a separate incident on September 6 at around 6:50PM, an unknown motorist struck a male pedestrian along Luveve Road opposite the Rio Turn-Off.
Asst Insp Ndlovu said the pedestrian, believed to be approximately 20 years old, was crossing the road northwards when he was hit by the vehicle travelling eastwards.
“The motorist did not stop after the accident. As a result of the accident, the pedestrian sustained a cut on the right hand and was bleeding from the nose. He died on the spot,” she said.
Police also attributed the second accident to failure by the motorist to keep a proper lookout.
Asst Insp Ndlovu urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and remain alert, particularly when approaching areas where pedestrians are likely to cross.
“Police urges motorists to always exercise extreme caution and keep a proper lookout when driving to avoid loss of lives,” she said.
She warned motorists that failing to stop and render assistance after being involved in an accident is an offence.
Police are appealing to members of the public with information that could lead to the arrest of the unknown motorist involved in the Luveve Road accident to contact Traffic West on 0292-2402551.
