According to the executive director of Presidential Scholarships Programme Dr Christopher Mushohwe applications for the 2020 programme will only open in February.
Source: A message circulating on social media claimed the Presidential and National Scholarships Department was inviting applicants to apply for scholarships for the 2020 academic year. According to the message, applicants are supposed to send their applications for undergraduate, Masters and PHD programmes to scholarship@zanupforg.online
Background: The Presidential Scholarship Programme is a state run department which facilitates academic scholarships for underprivileged Zimbabwean students. The students are offered opportunities to study in local and international universities.
Presidential Scholarship Program Executive Director, Dr Chris Mushohwe said the advert was a bogus one.
“That is a bogus advert, we are actually trying to find out who is behind the advert,” said Dr Mushohwe.
“All scholarships are directed from the office of President and cabinet not ZANU PF.
Mushohwe said Presidential and National scholarships will be advertised around next month, February.
“We will advertise the Presidential and National scholarship by February, all applications will be sent to Compensation House for national and Presidential scholarships,” he said.
“Presidential scholarships does not operate that way, it is a program that has been there since 1995,” said Dr Mushohwe.
