The managing director of Comrades Beverages, a Bulawayo-based manufacturing company, has appeared in court facing three charges linked to the alleged illegal manufacture and sale of liquor from a city centre flat.
Langa Moyo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Golden Muyambo, but was not asked to plead to the charges.
He was remanded in custody to 17 June.
Prosecutor Samuel Mpofu told the court that Moyo is facing charges of operating an unauthorised factory, selling liquor without a licence, and unlawfully handling hazardous substances.

The state alleges the case came to light on 10 June 2026 after police detectives received a tip-off and conducted a compliance check at premises in Bulawayo’s city centre where alcohol was allegedly being manufactured.
“Upon arrival, detectives advised that they were conducting a compliance check,” Mpofu told the court.
He said police allegedly found Moyo engaged in liquor manufacturing operations at the flat, which prosecutors say was not registered and had no certification to operate as a factory.
Investigators further allege that Comrades Beverages had been producing and distributing various alcoholic beverages in and around Bulawayo.
According to the state, police recovered 96 bottles of gin branded Highlanders African Gin, 85 unbranded bottles of liquor, and 156 bottles of Kalahari African Gin, along with manufacturing equipment.
Prosecutors also allege detectives found 600 litres of ethanol at the premises.
The court heard that Moyo allegedly did not possess a permit from the Environmental Management Agency or a storage certificate authorising him to handle the substance.
The matter returns to court on 17 June.
