A Zimbabwean woman working in Botswana is appealing for assistance to secure accommodation and care for her father, who suffered a stroke about two years ago and is currently staying with relatives in Lupane.
Speaking to CITE, Sandra Dhlamini said her father suffered the stroke when he returned to Zimbabwe from South Africa for a visit, leaving the family struggling to meet his accommodation and care needs.
“My father was working in South Africa, and two years ago, when he came back to Zimbabwe for a visit, he suffered a stroke. Since then, our family has been going through a very difficult time,” she said.
Dhlamini said the stroke had affected her father’s left hand and leg, although he could still perform some daily activities independently.

“Since his stroke, my father has been left with difficulties using his left hand and left leg. Although he can still walk, eat, and use the toilet by himself, he is living with the effects of the stroke and needs a safe place to stay,” she said.
She said the family did not own a home in Zimbabwe and feared her father could lose the accommodation currently provided by relatives in rural Lupane.
“Our family is going through a very difficult situation financially. We do not have a home of our own, and we do not have enough money to rent accommodation or pay for someone to help care for our father. At the moment, he is staying with relatives in rural Lupane, Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, they have given us time to find another place for him to stay, and we are worried about what will happen to him if we cannot find a solution,” Dhlamini said.
Dhlamini said her earnings in Botswana were insufficient to cover her father’s accommodation and care expenses.
“I am currently working in Botswana as a maid, earning only 1,600 Botswana Pula per month. My salary is not enough to provide accommodation for my father and pay for someone to take care of him,” she said.
She said the family’s financial difficulties had made it hard to find a lasting solution despite efforts to seek assistance.
“It is very painful for us as a family to see our father in this situation when we do not have the financial means to give him the care and security he deserves. We have tried to look for help, but we have not yet found a solution,” Dhlamini said.
She appealed to organisations, donors and well-wishers to help the family find suitable accommodation and care for her father.
“We are humbly asking for help to find an organisation, a care home, or a well-wisher who can assist us with accommodation and care for my father. We are struggling, and we do not know where else to turn,” she said.
Dhlamini said the family would welcome different forms of assistance, including financial or medical support, help to build a small family home, or a referral to a suitable care facility.
“We are not asking for luxury. We are simply asking for a safe place where our father can stay with dignity and where our family can have some peace of mind knowing that he is safe,” she said.
She said any assistance or referral to an organisation that could help would make a difference to the family.
“Any help, advice, or connection to an organisation that can assist us would mean so much to our family,” she said.
