Zim reports more than 5000 Covid-19 cases

Over 5 000 Covid-19 new cases and three deaths were reported yesterday in the country, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has reported.

All cases were local transmissions.

The three deaths occurred in Harare.

“5 189 new cases (all local) and three deaths reported today. (7 day rolling average for new cases rises to 2 2777 from 2 184 (yesterday),” said the Ministry in its latest report.

Of the 5 189 new cases reported yesterday, the highest number of cases were also reported from Harare as the city recorded 1 503 new cases.

The second highest number of cases was reported in Mashonaland East with 708 new cases, followed by Mashonaland West with 698 new cases.

Bulawayo reported 679 new cases while Manicaland reported 452 new cases.

Masvingo reported 312 new cases, Matabeleland North reported 271 new cases, Matabeleland South 223 new cases, Mashonaland Central 177 cases, Midlands 166 new cases.

The Ministry said of the 12 899 tests conducted yesterday, the positivity rate was 40.2 percent.

“41 new recoveries: National recovery rate rises to 86 percent and active cases go up to 21 958. As of today, Zimbabwe has recorded 155 817 cases, 129 136 recoveries and 4 723 deaths,” said the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

They added that 16 248 people received their first dose yesterday bringing cumulative for first dose to 3 924 108 while 20 216 received their second dose bringing cumulative for second dose to 2 946 357 as at 1600hours.

“As of 08 December 2021, at 1500 hours there were 257 hospitalized cases, new admissions (76), asymptomatic (7), mild to moderate 235, severe 13 and two in Intensive Care Units,” said the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
