Zanu-PF’s Tsikira wins Bulawayo Ward 1 by-election

ZANU-PF candidate Mathias Tichaona Tsikira has won the Bulawayo City Council Ward 1 by-election after polling 1 590 votes.

According to the official declaration of the result of the poll, independent candidate Shepherd Sithole received 112 votes, while Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate Mduduzi Sibanda polled 74 votes.

Ward Elections Officer Mangxangaza Samantha Samkele Xaba declared Tsikira duly elected in accordance with the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13].

Xaba said: “I do hereby declare that I have, in accordance with the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13], and the regulations made thereunder, ascertained the result of the poll for the said Ward.”

Xaba subsequently declared Tsikira the duly elected councillor for Ward 1.

“I therefore declare the said Tsikira Mathias Tichaona of ZANU-PF party this day to be duly elected member of the Local Authority for Ward 1 Bulawayo Municipality,” the declaration reads.

A total of 15 ballot papers were rejected, while the percentage poll was recorded at 12.4 percent.
