Three-year-old drowns in pit

A minor from Selonga village in Gwanda South, drowned in a water-filled pit while playing with his friend at their home on Wednesday morning.

Matabeleland South acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Stanford Mguni, confirmed the incident.

“Police are investigating a case in which a 3-year-old minor was playing with his 4-year-old friend from a neighboring homestead. The minor fell into a one-meter-deep pit near their play area,” Assistant Inspector Mguni said.

“The friend rushed inside and alerted his father, who came out and retrieved the boy from the pit. They administered first aid and rushed him to Selonga clinic, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.”

Assistant Inspector Mguni urged parents to monitor their children’s whereabouts, especially during this rainy season, as there have been several reported cases of drowning.
