Taxi driver fined $10k for slapping minor

A 52-year-old Victoria Falls taxi driver who assaulted a schoolchild for blocking him with his bicycle while the learner was making his way to school has been slapped with a four-month jail sentence.  

Edson Chisare from Mkhosana high-density suburb appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Linda Dzvene charged with contravening Section 89 (1) (a) and the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act chapter 9: 23, Assault.

He pleaded guilty and was convicted accordingly.

The state presented by Audrey Mukanganya said on November 8 at around 7 am and at Shalom Primary School, the accused who was driving past the school was blocked by the 12-year-old learner who was riding a bicycle intending to enter the school premises.

“This did not go down well with the accused who then disembarked from his car and assaulted the complainant on the face twice with open hands,” Mukanganya told the court.

According to a medical report produced in court, the pupil did not sustain any permanent injuries following the assault.

Chisare, will, however, avoid jail if he pays a $10 000 fine.
