Seventy more Zimbabweans succumb to Covid-19

A new single day record of Covid-19 deaths has been set in Zimbabwe after 70 people succumbed to the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.

This is happening at a time when the Southern African nation’s Covid-19 fatalities have since surpassed 1, 000.

The country’s capital city, Harare, which has recorded the highest number of deaths this far, reported 48 more on Monday bringing its total number of fatalities to 409.

The latest statement from the Ministry of Health and Child Care notes that the country to date has recorded 1075 deaths in total. 

“Nine people died in Manicaland Province, six in Bulawayo, three in Midlands, two Mashonaland East while Mashonaland Central and Masvingo recorded one death each,” read the statement. 

“326 people tested positive to the respiratory disease yesterday thus bringing the number of Covid-19 cases to 31 646. All the new cases are local transmissions and Mashonaland West has the highest number of new transmissions after 66 people tested positive.”

According to the statement, a total of 2374 PCR tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and the positivity rate was at 14 %.

A total of 627 new recoveries have been reported bringing the national recovery rate to 72.3%.

Zimbabwe has to date recorded 31646 cases, 22877 recoveries and 1075 deaths.
