Mtshabezi High School records Covid-19 cases

Mtshabezi High School in Matabeleland South recorded 17 Covid-19 cases,  CITE has established. 

The Brethren In Christ Church run school becomes the second learning institution in the province after Matobo High School to record Covid-19 cases. 

Of the recorded cases, the bulk are learners, while two teachers and two workers at the school reportedly contracted the virus.

Sources at the school confirmed that all those affected have been placed in isolation. 

“Affected hostels have been disinfected. Social distancing and proper wearing of masks is being re-enforced. All Covid-19 procedures or protocols are being put in place. Most of the students identified as positive are asymptomatic. We await further information from the headmaster,” said the source. 

Gwanda hospital acting Medical Superintendent Dr Blessing Gwarimbo also confirmed the development, adding that they recorded 17 cases. 

“I am not sure about who exactly tested positive but I can confirm 17 positive tests came out two days ago that came from Mtshabezi High School,” confirmed Dr. Gwarimbo. 

He added that the medical teams from the Ministry of Health and Child Care and Mtshabezi Hospital officials are currently at the school assessing the situation.
