Minor (2) mauled to death by dogs

A two-year-old minor was mauled to death by boerboel dogs at her family house in Douglasdale suburb, Bulawayo, police have confirmed.

Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Nomalanga Msebele, said the incident occurred on February 28, 2026, at around 10am.

“Police in Bulawayo confirms receiving a sudden death case which occurred in Douglasdale, Bulawayo where a female minor was bitten by a Boer dog and lost her life,” said Insp Msebele.

She said the minor was walking with her mother (31), while her stepfather (41) was feeding four Boerboel dogs inside their fenced yard.

“The dogs jumped over the fence, ran towards the minor and attacked her,” said Inspector Msebele.

According to the police, the child sustained injuries to the scalp and lacerations behind the ears, armpits and on both legs.

“She was ferried to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention where she was admitted and treated until she succumbed to the injuries,” Insp Msebele said.

She appealed to dog owners, particularly those keeping large or aggressive breeds, to ensure their properties are properly secured to prevent dogs from jumping over or escaping.

This should be a wake up call to the owner, these same dogs killed 18 goats last year November at a neighbour’s plot but the owner wasn’t forthcoming when engaged.
