Police in Tsholotsho are investigating a murder case after a man from Lupane was bludgeoned to death with a log during a beer brawl.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the arrest of Fios Dube who is accused of murdering Butho Moyo of Zabagwadi Line under Chief Mathuphula.

His cause of death according to police was due to severe assault with a log on the head and all over the body.

“Tsholotsho police received a tip-off from Nicolas Moyo to the effect that Moyo was assaulted by a log all over his body and head by Dube leading to his death,” Banda said.

“Circumstances are that on August 5, and around 12 noon, the informant left his place of residence in the company of Moyo and proceeded to Mathandaza Ndlovu’s homestead in Thokozani Village to drink traditional beer.

“While there, they were then joined by Dube and later in that evening, a misunderstanding arose between the two resulting in Dube picking up a log and assaulting the deceased.”

Banda said Moyo fled towards Jimila Bussiness Centre and lost consciousness at Simunyu School.

He was then discovered the following day at around 10 AM by other two villagers who took him to Jimila Clinic by a scotch cart.

On August 7, he was then transferred to Tsholotsho District Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries three days later.
