Hwange to impound stray livestock

By VicFallsLive

Hwange Local Board (HLB) is planning to construct holding pens to impound stray livestock, especially cattle and goats.

Stray livestock is a permanent sight in Hwange town, especially along the highway between the by-pass garage on the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road and the central business district.

Hwange town is administered by different local authorities including Hwange Local Board, Hwange Colliery Company, Zimbabwe Power Company and National Railways of Zimbabwe.

Posting on its Twitter page, the local authority said efforts are underway to establish a cattle pen.

The local authority said it had started carrying out a survey for the suitable piece of land.

“Hwange Local Board’s Planning Section has embarked on a reconnaissance survey to identify a suitable area for setting up a livestock pound as part of efforts to curb problematic stray animals,” said the local authority.

The Local Board did not give timelines.

Meanwhile, HLB is also working with partners to secure community gardens that it opened last year to promote resilience and food security among residents.

The local authority paid gratitude to individuals that have partnered with it for the good cause.

“A local businessman Rodrick Hwaire has donated fencing material to Hwange Local Board’s Sizimisele Community garden to assist in securing the agricultural enterprise.” the authority said in a statement.
