Contact tracing and testing of people who came into contact with Matabeleland North Provincial Minister Richard Moyo has begun.
Minister Moyo tested for Covid-19 on Monday and he received his results, which came out positive, on Thursday last week.
Matabeleland North Provincial Medical Director Dr Munekayi Padingani told CITE that the tracing is being conducted in four sites that the minister visited last week including Victoria Falls where he was part of the delegation that attended the official conferment of the city status to Victoria Falls, presided over by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
‘First close to him, there was a contact trace that was done in his office in Bulawayo and he was he part of the contact so when the results came positive, we did contact tracing among his family together with people who were in his office.
“So at the office and at his home those areas have been covered and we are now tracing the other sites that are Victoria Falls and Tsholotsho where he went to. Victoria Falls is on-going, but for Tsholotsho I will have to find out if the teams have started but I can say all the tracing is on-going.”
Dr Padingani could not immediately release the figures of people who have been contacted before insisting that for high profile cases, the reporter should make her own investigations.
“For the home, we have tested up to now 24 people and we are yet to compile the other statistics for other sites.” he said.
“You need to take note that we don’t talk about the names of the people that we are tracing and testing, we just give you numbers and for those public figure individuals you need to contact them directly for a comment.”
In an interview with CITE on Saturday, Minister Moyo said he was isolating at his home and he was in a stable condition.
