Goblins terrorise Pumula South residents

Some Pumula South residents are seeking spiritual assistance to get rid of a “goblin” that has been terrorising them over the past months.

A CITE news crew visited the affected residents who shared the various experiences that they have had with the alleged goblin.

They said the attacks happen at night and the goblin usually targets single women or those whose husbands are out of town or outside the country.

One of the victims, who identified herself as MaDawu, claimed that the attacks commenced after her neighbour sought the services of a traditional helper at their house.

“This whole thing started last year after my neighbour sought services from some helper, I don’t know if it was a prophet or a traditional healer. They buried something outside their house. Immediately after they were done, I heard some sound on my rooftop,” she narrated.

“I then approached my other neighbour and explained to her what had happened. She advised me not to confront the person. Now I regret not talking about it back then because maybe had we addressed it then we wouldn’t be here now.”

MaDawu said the “goblin” is usually active around 2 am and you either hear footsteps on rooftops or it comes in the form of a strong wind.

“There would be heavy footsteps on the roof. Sometimes it bangs on the garage door, while at times it comes inside the house and switches on the television,” she said.

“One day I was sleeping in the spare bedroom. I heard the door opening and I got up. I saw some human-like figure but couldn’t figure out its face. It kept moving closer to me. I was so scared. I couldn’t move nor could I scream, all of a sudden it just clicked its tongue and went back.”

Some of the residents spoke on condition of anonymity citing that they feared victimisation from their landlords.

“I usually wake up from my sleep struggling to breathe. I would be choked by things that I cannot see. It’s been happening for a while now. Sometimes it comes as wind, you hear a very strong wind blowing outside the house before the attacks start,” a resident said.

Another resident said: “I feel it when I am bathing. I feel something washing my private parts. When it started I thought it was my husband who had followed me into the bathroom, only to realize that he was nowhere close by.”

Another resident said they have tried to use coarse salt to chase it away but it has not worked.

The residents said they have sought spiritual assistance but the person they engaged could not help them.

CITE spoke to the accused neighbour (name withheld for ethical reasons) and they explained that they sought the services of a traditional healer to help their son who is suffering with a mental illness.

“I am shocked that people think like this about me. All my neighbours are aware of my plight. What I need is someone who can actually come and help me with my son’s condition not these accusations. I’m deeply disappointed and pained that you would be seeing people around you and think they are sympathising yet they have their own perceptions about you,” she said, seemingly defeated and devastated.
