Former Bulawayo Ward 2 Councillor Joyce Ndlovu passes away
Former Ward 2 councillor Joyce Ndlovu, who served in the Bulawayo City Council from 2018 to 2023, passed away on Thursday night at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo.
Her death was announced on Friday morning in several Ward 2 community groups, leaving residents in mourning.
Father Mhlanga, the Richmond Suburb residents’ chairperson, shared the news with the community: “It is with a sad heart that we announce to you the passing away of one of our mothers in the community, the former councillor, Umama J. Ndlovu (Joyce). She passed away last night at Mpilo Hospital.”
Current Ward 2 councillor Adrian Rendani Moyo confirmed his predecessor’s death and reflected on their working relationship. “I am very sad to hear of the passing of Joyce Ndlovu. I took over from her in 2023, but I worked with her during my tenure as the secretary general of the Trenance Killaloo Association. I was part of her political campaign during the 2018 elections, and we worked on several initiatives since then,” he said.
Moyo praised Ndlovu’s dedication to public service and highlighted her personal qualities. “She was devoted to the ward. On a personal level, I knew her as a hardworking farmer. When you visited her home, you would leave carrying fresh vegetables and whatever produce was in season. She welcomed me like a son, and her home was always open to me,” he recalled.
“I learned so much from her during her tenure, and her passing is a great loss. My condolences go to her husband and children during this difficult time,” Moyo added.
Community members expressed their grief and acknowledged her contributions. One resident noted, “Sad news indeed. Another resource is gone, not just for us as a ward but for the city of Bulawayo as a whole. We thank her for the job she did as councillor. Her leadership encouraged other women to take up leadership roles. We are with the Ndlovu and Moyo families during this time.”
Mourners are gathering at Number 3A Allan Wilson Glenville Drive. Funeral arrangements are being finalized, and burial details will be announced in due course.
