Fatal healing session lands prophet in court

A prophet appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate Thursday charged with allegedly causing the death of a four year old child he was healing.

The prophet, Senzeni Jiyane (60) appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate, Franklin Mkhwananzi together with the child’s mother, Lindiwe Ncube on murder charges.

However, Magistrate Mkhwananzi granted them $100 bail each.

The state represented by Prosecutor Mufaro Mageza told the court that sometime this week Ncube approached Jiyane seeking assistance for her daughter, who could not speak.

As part of his healing, Jiyane prepared a mixture of salt, two eggs, water and an unidentified herb to serve the child.

“The accused person gave the child the concoction to drink. After drinking the concoction, the child started screaming and bleeding from the mouth and nose. Ncube then took the child to Mpilo Central Hospital where she died at the Paediatrics Casualty ward,” Mageza told the court.

Both the prophet and the child’s mother are expected to appear in court on April 12.
