Fact check: No, there are no vaccination requirements for polling agents
In a message that widely circulated on social media Wednesday, someone claimed that polling agents for different political parties will not be admitted to polling stations in Saturday’s by-elections unless they are vaccinated for Covid-19.
“We are receiving disturbing reports from the field that polling agents can’t be admitted to polling stations unless they are vaccinated,” read the message.”
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has professed ignorance over the issue, adding it has verified the claim with its respective offices, which have indicated that no such instructions were ever issued.
Zimbabwe will on March 26 hold by-elections to fill in 28 parliamentary and over 120 local authority seats that fell vacant over the past two years. Political parties are already finalising preparations for the much-awaited for the much-awaited polls.
