Covid-19 claims 27 more lives

Twenty-seven more people have succumbed to Covid-19 while 1 940 new cases were recorded, a report from the Ministry of Health and Child Care stated.

The majority of the Covid-19 deaths occurred in Harare with 14 deaths with four of the deaths having occurred on December 21 and had not been reported.

The other Covid-19 death cases occurred in Mashonaland East with five cases, Manicaland (3), Mashonaland West (2) while Bulawayo; Mashonaland Central and Masvingo all reported one case each.

To date, 4 855 Covid-19 deaths have been recorded in Zimbabwe.

“1 940 new cases (All local) and 27 deaths reported today. (The 7 day rolling average for new cases went down to 2 149 from 2 473 yesterday,” said the ministry said.

Of the 3 919 tests done yesterday, the positivity rate was 49.5 percent.

The highest number of new cases were reported in Mashonaland East with 334 cases.

The health ministry added that as at 22 December 2021, at 1500hours there were 401 hospitalized cases, new admission 49, asymptomatic 21, mild to moderate 335, severe 41 and four were in Intensive Care Units.

“Vaccination update: 10 370 received their first dose today bringing cumulative for 1st dose to 4 089039 while 10 148 received their second dose bringing cumulative for the second dose to 3 098 820 as at 1600hours.

“3 640 new recoveries: National recovery rate rises to 75 percent and active cases go down to 45 180. As of today, Zimbabwe has recorded 201 344 cases, 151 309 recoveries and 4 855 deaths,” the report read.
