BCC struggles with refuse collection

The shortage of refuse compactors has forced the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) to alter its refuse collection schedule a situation which has inconvenienced residents.

The local authority is said to be operating with about half of its 14 refuse trucks with the other half grounded.

This has resulted in some suburbs, especially in the eastern suburbs going for weeks with their litter uncollected forcing some residents to dump the garbage in undesignated places like bushy areas.

In its latest update, the local authority said it was unable to collect refuse in Selborne Park (South), Romney Park, and Sunnyside on Thursday and will collect the refuse on Friday.

“The following areas, Kumalo, Parklands, Emhlangeni, Ilanda, Malindela and the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair which were scheduled for Friday, 22 July 2022 will now be collected on Saturday, 23 July 2022. This is due to refuse vehicle shortages,” said Christopher Dube, the Town Clerk.

ZITF is currently hosting the 25th edition of the Mine Entra, an international exhibition which caters for the mutually compatible sectors of mining, engineering and transport and their associated industries.
