Shekinah Glory calls for collective action on breast cancer awareness

By Nyasha Dube

Community organization Shekinah Glory has urged Zvishavane women to adhere to healthy practices to reduce the risks of breast cancer.

This comes at a time when Zimbabwe has joined the rest of the world in commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness Month also known as Pink October.

This year’s theme is “No one should face breast cancer alone.”

Addressing community women, Peninah Simango said women should exercise and eat healthily, saying prevention is better than cure.

“Early detection also saves lives so do not self-diagnose but seek professional screening services so that you know where you stand,” Simango said.

She also challenged women to educate everyone in the community, including their spouses, so that they do not face breast cancer alone but tackle it collectively as a community.

The engagement also included men, who were encouraged to play an active role in community breast cancer awareness and information sharing.

Regina Mafadza from Shekinah Glory also emphasized the importance of screening, not only for breast cancer but also cervical cancer.

“Our district hospital offers screening services free of charge so let us take care of ourselves through taking preventative measures,” Mafadza said.
