Byo vendor attacked and murdered
Police in Bulawayo are investigating a murder case of a 28 year-old man from Cowdray Park suburb which occurred Monday evening around 6pm.
The deceased has only been identified as a vendor who was operating at Garikai intersection.
The accused persons are only known as Clifford, Fisani and Sankazi and are on the run.
In a statement, Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, said the now deceased and his friends were at Garikai intersection in Cowdray Park doing their vending business when the incident occurred.
“One of his friends was approached by the three accused persons who demanded money from him, searched and took away his ZWL$10 from his trousers pocket. The deceased and his friends confronted the accused persons who became violent,” said Inspector Ncube.
“Fisani and Sankazi withdrew okapi knives from their trousers pockets and Sankazi stabbed the now deceased on the stomach. Clifford withdrew a knobkerrie from his black satchel which he was carrying and struck him once on the left elbow”.
Inspector Ncube further explained: “He (the deceased) tried to run away and was caught by Clifford who struck him again with a knobkerrie once on the head and he fell down. The accused continued assaulting him with fists and booted feet several times all over the body and he became unconscious,” he said.
Inspector Ncube said the accused persons fled from the scene leaving the now deceased lying on the ground.
“He was ferried to ZRP Cowdray Park and they reported the case, an ambulance was summoned and upon arrival, the ambulance crew pronounced him dead,” he said.
Inspector Ncube said the body was then ferried to United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) for post-mortem.
He urged members of the public to desist from resorting to violence in solving disputes.
“We appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the location and arrest of the perpetrators of this terrible crime to contact any nearest police station,” he said.
