A Magwegwe woman was reportedly gang raped by three armed robbers who had broken into her home while family members slept.

A Magwegwe woman was reportedly gang-raped by three armed robbers who had broken into her home while family members slept.

The incident which happened in the early hours of Wednesday left neighbours shell-shocked.

According to sources close the incident, the robbers after sexually violating the victim (name withheld) whose age could not be ascertained, the trio went on to loot some of the household property.

The robbers threatened to shoot her if she raised alarm.

“We passed by the house with three of my friends and saw a large group of people standing by and we drew closer to enquire what had happened,” said Mxolisi Nkala, a resident.

Nkala said the robbers gained entry into the house through a window.

“They gained access into the house through a window, told the girl to keep quiet or they were going to shoot her and gang-raped her while everyone else in the house was asleep,” said Nkala.

“The girl did not scream because she would have woken up others sleeping”.

Another resident who spoke to CITE on condition of anonymity said the robbers stole a plasma television set, a mobile phone and a radio among other things.

Another neighbour, Chester Ngwenya said they picked up the radio at a nearby bush on their way from a morning prayer session.

“We found a radio and a lost sim card at a nearby bush where we usually pray and we took it to the family and they positively identified it as their stolen radio,” said Ngwenya.

“We are not sure as to why the radio was left behind.”

The police could not confirm the incident when contacted for a comment.

“We cannot confirm anything as we have not yet received a report pertaining to the incident,” said Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango.
