Kenya to hold a re-run on 17 October 2017

According to  Kenya’s electoral commission, the country’s new presidential elections will take place on October 17, after the country’s Supreme Court nullified the result of the August 8 presidential election won by President  Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a statement released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC),  there shall be no fresh nominations in the envisaged fresh elections.

Honourable Raila Odinga and his running mate Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Honorable Uhuru Kenyatta and his running mate Hon. William Sanoei Ruto shall be the only candidates.

Kenya’s Supreme Court Judge David Maraga had ruled that the election commission “failed, neglected or refused to conduct the presidential election in a manner consistent with the dictates of the Constitution”, hence a re-run.

Below is the statement by IEBC.
