New solar project to boost Byo industrial energy
Bulawayo industry is set to receive energy boost, following the licencing this week of a new 50 megawatts solar project, by the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA).
The authority has granted Parvalue Energy (Private) Limited a 25-year licence to establish the 50 megawatts solar photovoltaic power plant at Westgate suburb in Bulawayo.
In a public notice ZERA said the plant would be established at Donnington West for purposes of electricity generation and supply.
“The generation licence is hereby granted to Parvalue Energy (Private) Limited . . . to own, operate and maintain the 50MW solar photovoltaic power plant called Donnington West Power Plant at stand 3039, Donnington West, Westgate suburb in Bulawayo,” said ZERA.
“The licensee may supply electricity to any transmission, distribution or supply licensee who purchases electricity for resale and, with the approval of the authority, to any one or more consumers.”
This comes at a time Zimbabwe is facing acute electricity, with residential areas enduring over 18 hours of load shedding owing mainly to low generation capacity at the country’s main power stations in Hwange and Kariba.
Electricity, which, for years has been the main source of energy for the country has since become alternative power.
For domestic purposes, the use of Liquid Petroleum (LP) Gas is on the increase something that has prompted the government to consider regulating the sector.
