Ncube distances himself from ‘fake’ CAB3 statement, reaffirms opposition to the bill

Professor Welshman Ncube, who leads a faction of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has distanced himself from a statement circulating on social media that purports to show him endorsing Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), describing it as a fabrication designed to misrepresent his position on the proposed constitutional changes.

In a statement issued through spokesperson Willias Madzimure, Ncube’s faction said the document was false and did not reflect its views on the proposed constitutional amendments.

“The document currently circulating on social media purporting to be a statement by President Welshman Ncube on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 is fake. It is a malicious fabrication,” Madzimure said.

Ncube’s faction argued that the emergence of the alleged statement was not coincidental, coming at a time when supporters of CAB3 were struggling to secure broad public support for the proposed constitutional amendments.

“The timing and content of this manufactured statement are revealing,” Madzimure said. “It comes at a time when proponents of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 are increasingly struggling to secure broad public support and meaningful consensus, even within sections of ZANU-PF itself.”

According to Ncube’s faction, the circulation of the document appeared to be part of an effort to create the impression that he supported the bill.

“Having failed to generate sufficient public traction for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, there now appears to be a desperate attempt to create the false impression that President Welshman Ncube is a supporter of CAB3,” Madzimure said.
