Recalled Victoria Falls Ward 10 Councillor Nkanyiso Sibindi (38) has appeared in court facing a charge of malicious damage to property after allegedly smashing a city council laptop during a full council meeting.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon after Sibindi and two other councillors from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) were recalled from their positions.
Sibindi appeared before magistrate Fadzai Dzimire, who granted him US$300 bail and remanded the matter to a later date.
Prosecutor Audrey Mukanganya told the court that the incident occurred after Sibindi allegedly refused to comply with instructions to leave the council chambers following the reading of a letter announcing the recall of the three councillors.

“On June 4, 2026, at around 5:30pm, the accused was attending an ordinary council meeting at the Victoria Falls City Council Chambers. A ministerial letter recalling three councillors, including the accused, was read by the Town Clerk, Ronnie Dube,” Mukanganya said.
She told the court that Mayor Prince Thuso Moyo then instructed the recalled councillors to leave the chambers, but they allegedly refused, prompting him to direct the Chief Security Officer to enforce the order.
According to the State, Sibindi insisted that he would not leave, arguing that the recall was not genuine, resulting in police intervention.
“He then jumped over the boardroom table, grabbed the Victoria Falls City Council HP Core i5 laptop, threw it to the ground and jumped on it, causing damage,” Mukanganya said.
The court heard that the laptop was valued at US$975 and has not yet been repaired.
