Bulawayo residents urged to get cycling
Bulawayo Mayor Cllr David Coltart has encouraged residents to embrace cycling as a way to promote healthy living, tourism, and business networking.
Speaking at the city’s 130th-anniversary celebrations on Bulawayo Day (June 1), Cllr Coltart said cycling has the potential to foster international connections and business opportunities.
“We need to recognise the link between cycling and tourism,” he said. “Bulawayo boasts various cycling attractions, including the annual Gweru-to-Bulawayo event, the PPC race, and world-class mountain biking facilities in the Matopos.”
Cllr Coltart highlighted the growing popularity of mountain biking, comparing its appeal to traditional business networking activities.
“We have mountain bike tracks at Hillside Dams and other locations across the city,” he noted. “Mountain biking is becoming the new golf – a sport that unites business people. By strategically promoting cycling, we can not only foster a healthier community but also play a key role in growing our economy.”
