Mayor`s Christmas Cheer Fund targets $200K
The City of Bulawayo has launched a dollar campaign to raise funds for this year`s Mayor`s Christmas Cheer Fund.
The campaign is targeted at residents and the corporate world, with the former asked to donate at least a dollar towards the cause.
The Mayor’s Christmas cheer fund, which will be officially launched on November 9 and is targeting to raise at least $200 000.
This year`s theme is, “Spread the love, sharing is caring”.
Speaking on City Matters hosted by Skyz Metro FM, the local authority`s Senior Public Relations officer, Nesisa Mpofu said they were hopeful the fundraising campaign will be a success.
“With the help of the residents we are very hopeful that this year’s mayor`s cheer fund will have a huge outcome as some people have already started donating,” said Mpofu.
”Among the companies that have already donated is Edgars. Other big corporate have also pledged ahead of the launch on Friday.”
Mpofu added: “Any donation is welcome, be it money or any other form of goods .Our wish is that each household in Bulawayo must at least donate a dollar.”
“I want to assure all the donors that everything we receive will be recorded and accounted for.”
Mpofu said the fund is meant to ensure the less privileged members of the community get to enjoy their Christmas.
“The donations will go a long way in making a difference to the underprivileged members of the society this year,” she said.
Proceeds from the fund will be channeled to orphanages, old people`s homes as well as to other less privileged residents.
