Police arrest two suspected female drug peddlers
Police have arrested two women from Old Pumula who were found in possession of Methacathinone drugs.
Methcathinone abuse produces enhanced energy, feelings of toughness and invincibility, and increased sexual desire.
Unwanted effects are tachycardia, sweating, fever, anxiety, insomnia, muscle twitching, headaches, and abdominal cramps. Paranoid psychosis may develop after chronic use.
Nokuthula Sibanda (31) and Lindiwe Mhlanga (25) were arrested after the police received a tipoff.
Bulawayo Police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
“On the 4th of November 2023, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Bulawayo received information to the effect that the accused persons had dangerous drugs at Pumula Shops, Bulawayo. Acting on the information, the detectives proceeded to where they first located Nokuthaba Sibanda. A body search was done on her and a small transparent sachet with Methcathinone was recovered hidden in her blue overall hip pocket,” he said.
Inspector Ncube said Sibanda was arrested, and further searches were conducted on the accused and another small transparent sachet with Methcathinone was recovered.
The recovered methcathinone weighed 1 gram with a street value of US$6.00.
He said the detectives again proceeded to Lindiwe Mhlanga’s place and a “body search was done and a big transparent sachet packed with six small sachets containing Methcathinone was recovered hidden in her bra”.
He said Mhlanga was also arrested and the recovered Methcathinone weighed three grams with a street value of US$30.00.
Inspector Ncube said it is important that the community of Bulawayo fight the scourge of drug abuse and illegal cultivation and selling of dangerous drugs by reporting any persons that are illegally dealing in dangerous drugs to the police.
