BCC resumes road rehabilitation

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) says it has resumed city-wide road rehabilitation works, in a development that is set to see the city’s widely condemned road network being given a facelift.

The new development comes after the province recently received more than $1 billion allocation with $177 million having been disbursed so far by the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara).

In a statement, acting BCC town clerk Sikhangele Zhou notified motorists and the general public of the commencement of the road works.

“The motoring public is hereby notified of the ongoing roads rehabilitation works within the City of Bulawayo in a bid to improve the state of the road network which will resume on September 20 2022 and are expected to be completed by December 16 2022,” said Zhou.

She said the works will involve reconstruction, resurfacing, reinstating of carriageway markings, and other general maintenance works.

“Once completed these works will prolong the life of the carriageway, improve road safety and ride quality.”

The acting town clerk further noted that in order to ensure the safety of both the motoring public and workforce while carrying out the works residents should look out for traffic management system which has been put in place.

“There will be full carriageway closure of sections with traffic being diverted accordingly and lane closures where necessary.

“Every effort has been made to ensure disruption to traffic, businesses and residents is kept to a minimum. However, the road closure will inevitably cause some disruption and for this, the City of Bulawayo wishes to apologize in advance,” said Zhou.

She, however, advised motorists and the general public to exercise caution when entering and leaving the works locations, observe all warning signs and follow the diversion route signs.
