ZPRA veteran Jack Mpofu seeks $7k for hip replacement surgery

Former Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZPRA) Deputy Chief of Personnel and Training Jack Mpofu is appealing for financial assistance to undergo a hip replacement surgery at Marterdei Hospital in Bulawayo.

The procedure will cost US$7 310.

In an interview with CITE, Mpofu said even though he sustained injuries during the liberation struggle his situation was made worse after he fell and broke his leg.

“I got shot on my left foot during the war while I was with Commander Mangena. So, when I returned home I was now walking with the aid of a stick, this other day I fell and broke the same leg in the pelvis,” said Mpofu.

He said he has been trying to get government assistance for the past two years with no success.

“I have been trying to look for assistance from the government but it looks like they do not have money, thus why I am now appealing to the whole world. It’s now two years in pain and I am no longer able to walk anymore,” said Mpofu.

The money needed covers an implant which costs US$1 500, left hip replacement US$200, hospital fees US$2 300, anaesthetic fees US1 290 and specialist orthopaedics surgeon US$2000.

Those willing to assist can get in touch with Jack Mpofu on 0715 910 405.
