The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) has begun listing households in selected areas across the country ahead of the 2026/27 Household Budget Survey.
The listing exercise, which runs from August 7 to 17, is being conducted in selected enumeration areas across all 10 provinces to update the household frame from which participating households will be scientifically selected.
ZimStat said its field personnel would collect basic information on residential and non-residential structures, the occupancy status of dwellings, the number of households in each structure and the names of household heads.
ZimStat Director-General Tafadzwa Bandama said the exercise was an important preparatory stage for the Household Budget Survey, which provides data used in economic planning and policy formulation.

“The primary objective of the listing exercise is to update the household frame and facilitate the scientific selection of households that will participate in the 2026/27 Household Budget Survey,” Bandama said.
The survey is conducted under the Census and Statistics Act [Chapter 10:29] of 2007, which mandates ZimStat to collect official statistics for national development planning.
The Household Budget Survey provides data used to update the Consumer Price Index basket and weights, measure poverty and household welfare, and assess household expenditure and consumption patterns.
It also provides information used to estimate the contribution of the informal sector to Zimbabwe’s Gross Domestic Product.
Bandama said the data would support evidence-based policy formulation, planning, budgeting and socio-economic development programmes.
ZimStat urged households in selected areas to cooperate with its field personnel and provide accurate information.
“All information collected will be treated with the strictest confidentiality and used solely for statistical purposes, as provided for under the Census and Statistics Act,” Bandama said.
“Individual information will not be disclosed to any person or organisation.”
The agency said residents should verify the identity of field personnel before providing information. Enumerators will carry official ZimStat identity cards and authorisation letters.

Bandama said public cooperation would be important in ensuring that the country produces reliable official statistics.
