A Victoria Falls woman arrested for possession of over 480 kg of dagga worth more than ZWL $ 48 million has been remanded in custody following a brief appearance in court Friday afternoon.

The court, presided over by resident magistrate, Linda Dzvene, heard that Patricia Ncube (49) of House Number 6885 in Mkhosana was on Wednesday found in her bedroom in possession of 15 x 50kg bags full of mbanje.

She was not asked to plead.

For the state, Audrey Mukanganya told the court that on April 28 at around 10am, police received information to the effect that the accused was in possession of dagga at her place of residence.

Mukanganya said the detectives immediately teamed up with police officers from the canine section to surround Ncube’s place before informing her about their mission.

“A search was then conducted starting from the bedroom she was coming out of and immediately police recovered dagga packed in sacks and plastic bags,” said Mukanganya.

“Further searches were carried out in the house and a white plastic container with a red lid was also found in her bedroom containing packed twists of dagga, leading to her arrest.”

The confiscated illegal drug weighed 481kg and is valued at ZWL$ 48 100 million, the court heard.
