Two people killed in separate road accidents

Two people were killed following five separate road accidents in Bulawayo on Monday, police have confirmed.

In a statement, Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said the accidents took place between 8 am and 7 pm in different parts of the city.

He said in one of the incidents, a male adult aged 57 years of New Magwegwe suburb was fatally struck by a bus while crossing the road along Luveve road.

“In another incident along Khami road, a male adult who was pushing his ice-cream vending cart was hit by a motor vehicle which lost control and veered off the road resulting in him sustaining fractured lower limbs and chest injuries. He was ferried to Mpilo Hospital where he died upon admission,” said Inspector Ncube.

Inspector Ncube urged motorists to adhere to road traffic rules.

“Drivers should keep a proper lookout when they are overtaking and should be conversant with the blind spots on roads they are using and to avoid over speeding. We also encourage pedestrians to use zebra crossings when crossing the roads and not run and compete with the moving vehicles,” said Inspector Ncube.
