Two MRP members arrested

Two Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) activists were arrested Wednesday in Bulawayo on their way to Filabusi for a party meeting.

The two, Welcome Moyo and Muzi Mlotshwa were arrested in the city centre as they were parking their vehicle near Edgars Shop.

They were taken to Bulawayo Central Police Station.

Their lawyer, Nqobani Sithole, said the two are facing charges of public drinking, blocking the pavement and resisting arrest.

“I can confirm the arrest of two MRP youths. The youths are now held and detained at Bulawayo Central. I will provide more details after speaking to them,” he said Sithole.

MRP President, Mqondisi Moyo also confirmed the arrest of the party youth but doubted the genuity of the charges because he alleged the two do not take alcohol.

“A team of party members including women and youths were supposed to travel to Filabusi for a party programme. When they were in town near the Post Office Gardens, a group of police officers ordered them to leave the place. Our members then decided to park their vehicle near Edgars. At Edgars, the police officers followed to arrest Moyo and Mlotshwa, accusing them of public drinking and blocking the pavement. Interestingly, the accused do not drink alcohol,” Moyo said.
