Police are investigating a tragic fire that claimed the life of a one-year-old girl at a homestead in Nkayi, Matabeleland North province.
According to a statement from the police, the incident happened on Friday at Village 3, Drommoland in Inyathi.
Police said the toddler, who was one year and five months old, was alone in the house when the fire broke out.
Her mother is reported to have left the child sleeping on a bed while she accompanied the girl’s older brother to school nearby.

“The ZRP is investigating the circumstances surrounding a tragic fire incident which resulted in the death of a baby girl… The cause of the fire is yet to be established,” police said.
