BCC seeks to recruit 50 nurses

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has embarked on mass recruitment of nurses to boost staffing levels at its clinics following an exodus of skilled health personnel.

In an advert, the local authority revealed that it was seeking 50 general nurses with two more years of experience.

The main responsibilities include assessing and making management plans of outpatients, child health and family planning activities, implementing the management plans, reviewing patients to evaluate the effectiveness of the plan and making decisions for continued care and counselling as per patient’s needs, and in a hospital, the setup gives care to patients.

“The City of Bulawayo offers an attractive package comprising a competitive salary plus a number of fringe benefits, details of which will be revealed to the shortlisted applicants,” said the Town Clerk Christopher Dube.

The local authority runs 19 clinics and one hospital.

The health facilities were said to be operating with staff levels of between 49 and 61 percent.

Residents complained that they were spending long hours at the clinics a situation that was now compromising access to health services in the City.

Last year the government through the Minister of Health and Child Care announced plans to take over the running of council clinics to ensure standardised service delivery.

The government also moved to take over the take over the payment of salaries and allowances for nurses and other health personnel employed by local authorities.
