Soldier stabbed to death in love triangle

A member of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) was stabbed to death with a broken beer bottle by another man who found him sleeping with his female partner at her house in Bulawayo.

Police have confirmed the incident and are conducting investigations, but the victim has since been identified as Ntokizisi Mhlanga aged 32.

According to sources, the victim was discovered sleeping with the suspectโ€™s girlfriend at her lodgings in Trenance suburb.

โ€œThe soldier was found sleeping with a woman by her boyfriend. The boyfriend was carrying a beer bottle and struck the soldier on the head while he was still on the bed,โ€ sources alleged.

โ€œThe boyfriend, realising that he had killed the soldier, immediately went to the police and handed himself in, possibly fearing what would happen to him from other soldiers.โ€

National Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the matter in an interview with CITE.

โ€œIt is alleged the victim was found in bed with a woman who appears to have been engaging the two of them. Thatโ€™s when the conflict emanated, resulting in the unfortunate incident,โ€ he said.

The police posted a brief report on their Twitter account @PoliceZimbabwe naming the suspect as Tawanda Machingura aged 28.

โ€œOn November 20, 2022, police in Bulawayo arrested Tawanda Machingura (28) in connection with a case of murder which occurred on the same November 20, 2022 at a house along Brinkburn Avenue, Trenance,โ€ said the police.

โ€œThe victim, Ntokozisi Mhlanga (32) died after he was stabbed with a broken beer bottle on the ear following a misunderstanding over the suspectโ€™s girlfriend. The suspect had found the victim sleeping with the girlfriend.โ€
