Communities in Wards 8, 11 and 21 in Tsholotsho North Constituency are celebrating improved access to clean water after three boreholes were drilled and solarised under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), easing long-standing water shortages in the area.
Across Zimbabwe, both rural and urban communities continue to face persistent water challenges driven by erratic rainfall, ageing infrastructure and rising demand.
In districts such as Tsholotsho, residents have long depended on unsafe and distant water sources, while cities including Harare and Bulawayo regularly experience water rationing.
The introduction of solarised boreholes is increasingly being viewed as a practical response to chronic shortages, particularly in drought-prone regions where groundwater remains the most reliable source.

Tsholotsho North MP Libion Sibanda said the projects would have a lasting impact on community welfare.
“These solarised boreholes are a game-changer for our communities. They guarantee a steady supply of clean water while also reducing dependence on unreliable power sources. This is about dignity, health, and sustainable development,” he said.
Ward 11 Councillor Victor Ntibane said the intervention would ease pressure on residents who have struggled for years to access safe water.
“For years, our people have struggled to access clean water, especially during dry seasons. With these solarised systems, we now have a more dependable solution that will serve the community for years to come,” he said.
Residents welcomed the development, saying it had reduced long walks in search of water and improved daily living conditions.
“We used to walk long distances to fetch water, and sometimes the water was not safe. Now, with this solarised borehole, we can access clean water easily and at any time,” said Ward 8 resident Thabani Ndlovu.
Beyond household use, the boreholes are also expected to support nutrition gardens and small-scale farming, boosting food security and incomes in the affected communities.
