Police hunt for murder suspect

Police in Matabeleland South are appealing for information that will lead to the arrest of a 30-year-old man in connection with a murder that occurred in Fort Rixon.

The incidet took place on Monday around 9 pm.

The accused, Oscar Patala of Chief Nenyuwa’s area is on the run.

The deceased is a 28 year old male (Name withheld as the family is not yet aware).

 Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident saying it occurred at Magangawonke bar in Shangani.

“Accused was drinking beer with his friends and had closed the door due to the bad weather, the deceased came with a machete and struck the bar door asking why it was closed, a misunderstanding arose between Oscar and the deceased and they started fighting,” said Inspector Mangena.

“Oscar withdrew a knife and stabbed the deceased once on the chest and neck and he died on the spot.”

The deceased body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

She encouraged the public to solve their issues amicably than to resort to violence. 

“We are appealing to members of the public who might have information that might lead to the arrest of Oscar to approach the nearest police station,” said Mangena.
