Plumtree whizkid appeals for financial assistance
A 20-year-old Plumtree whizkid who attained 20 points at A-Level is appealing for financial assistance to further his studies.
Vumani Moyo from Khame village in Plumtreewho did his A-level at Matjinge High School scored 20 points in Pure Mathematics, Economics, Business and Statistics and wants to study Actuarial Sciences.
Actuaries are professionals who use their mathematical, statistical and financial skills to solve financial problems involving future uncertainty.
“I am a well determined boy who believes in education as a key to success. I have obtained these results through hard-work and faith regardless of my financial status which always gave me strain in my academic journey,” said Moyo in an interview with CITE.
Born in a family of seven, Moyo said his parents are unemployed and depend on farming for survival.
Moyo said he has applying for scholarships since 2020 but nothing has materialised so far.
“I wish to get funding to go to university as I have realised that the world is changing and we also have to change with it. After my studies I want to motivate my community and Africa as a whole to avoid being consumers but instead producers. This will be done through technopreneurs in this 4th industrial revolution,” he said.
Moyo added that he has been using his time to impart knowledge to his community.
“I am a student who also believes in community service. During the 2020 period, I represented my province in the regional forum on sustainable development goals which was held in Victoria Falls with all African countries and the United Nations. I learnt a lot about artificial intelligence and I took the information to my community and spent three months teaching them for free,” he said.
“During the Covid-19 lockdown period, I was teaching mathematics for both Ordinary level and Advanced levels students. The learning was done via WhatsApp,” said Moyo.
