Mother’s Day treat for Ward 26 mums

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) councillor for Bulawayo’s Emganwini suburb (Ward 26), Mpumelelo Moyo will host a barbecue (braai) outing for all the mothers in his jurisdiction on Mother’s Day this Sunday.

Mother’s Day is a day set aside to honour mothers and mother figures worldwide.

In an interview, Moyo said he organised the event to make it a point that no mother is left out in celebrating this special day.

“We realise that in the community, some mothers might have children in the diaspora or some may not have children at all due to various reasons, while others their children are unemployed because of economic hardships in the country.

Such women’s roles as mothers are not recognised in these kinds of setups.

As their Councillor, I have taken this initiative to make sure no mother in my community feels less motherly by spoiling them,” he said.

The event caters for everyone who is a mother in his ward.

There also will be a pastor who will do devotions at the start of the program as well as a motivational speaker who will teach mothers about life skills and words of encouragement.

Moyo added, “I have to appreciate the role they (mothers) play even in my life as they also advise me in some things as a young councillor. Their prayers for me and my family and also the hard work they put in daily for the success of the community of Emganwini is unmatched.

I also want to set a precedence in the community for other leaders who will come after me, that besides service delivery. The community leader should also be keen to work with certain groups of people in the community and also shy away from divisions.”

Moyo has also done various things for his community like providing free driving lessons for a number of youths in his Ward, providing free eye testing, and sponsoring soccer tournaments in his ward among others.
