Covid-19: Vaccination of school kids begins

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has begun administering Covid-19 vaccines to school-going children who are aged 16 years above.

In a statement, Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube said the programme is being rolled out in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Care and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The targeted group will receive the Sinovac vaccine.

“Based on the available scientific data in the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe guidance, the specialist paediatricians have recommended the vaccination of the 16 to 17 years age group with Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine, whilst the protocol for the younger age groups is still under consideration,” said Dube.

“Vaccination will be given at all Municipal clinics, Central Hospitals, Mater Dei Hospital, all secondary schools and outreach points.”

Dube added that vaccination for those 18 years and above will continue.
