Minor drowns at Queens Sports Club pool

A 12 year old child reportedly drowned in a pool at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, ahead of tomorrow’s Shutdown Bulawayo music show to be held at the same venue.

The music show will feature some of the leading local and South African artistes.

A source who spoke to CITE on condition of anonymity said the child died on the way to Galen House for medical attention.

The source said the manager at the sports club, famed for hosting international and local cricket matches, couldn’t swim and he lingered around the pool for some time before getting someone who could retrieve the child from the pool.

“The Manager said he couldn’t swim. After 30 minutes someone finally came through and retrieved the child,” said the source.

“The child died on the way to Galen House. The ‘savior’ helped the child’s family to flag down lifts on Fife street. What is astonishing is the pool water is green and there was no guard attending to the it.”

Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango could not confirm the incident at the time of publication.

“We have not yet received the report but you can inquire with our office tomorrow morning maybe it would have come through,” said Simango.
