Mimosa Mine accident claims one

A face preparation supervisor at Zvishavane-based platinum miner, Mimosa Mining Company, was Saturday fatally struck by a falling rock at one of the shafts while working.

In a statement, the mine confirmed that Tichaona Nedziwe (39) succumbed to injuries sustained when a rock fell on him on Saturday evening while โ€œbarring down in a supported area at 22 Level South when a rock fell and seriously injured him.”

โ€œFirst aid was promptly administered and Tichaona was evacuated from the mine. Unfortunately, he passed on upon admission at the mine clinic.โ€

Mimosa said investigations were underway โ€œto determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.โ€

โ€œThe Mimosa Board, management and staff would like to express their sincere condolences to Tichaonaโ€™s family, his relatives and friends.โ€

This comes a few days after gold miner, Metallon Corporation announced that it had suspended operations at a shaft in How Mine after an accident which claimed one and injured four.

In a statement, the gold miner said โ€œa rock fall during shaft examination on the North Shaft resulted in the death of an employee and the injury of four workers

โ€œThe injured personnel are receiving appropriate medical care. Operations at the North Shaft have been suspended pending a thorough investigation into the tragedy.โ€
